Hashim meaning
Hashim (ہاشم) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
One who crushes or breaks (active participle of hashama, 'to crush')
Also used to mean: breaker of bread, generous
Hashim (ہاشم) is Arabic hāshim, "one who crushes or breaks", from hashama. Lane's lexicon defines the verb as crushing or breaking something, especially anything dry or hollow, and gives hashīm for a dry plant that breaks easily. The name belongs above all to Hāshim ibn ʿAbd Manāf, great-grandfather of the Prophet Muhammad and ancestor of the Banu Hashim. Early histories say he earned the name by breaking bread into broth to feed pilgrims at Mecca, which is why name lists give "generous". Hashmi families in India trace their descent from his clan.
