Beautiful, handsome, graceful, pleasing, charming
Sohan (सोहन) is a Hindi word for beautiful, handsome, graceful and charming. Platts traces it through Prakrit sohaṇo to Sanskrit śobhana, which Monier-Williams gives as brilliant, splendid and beautiful, and also excellent and auspicious; śobhana is also recorded as a name of Śiva in the Mahabharata. As a noun, Platts notes, sohan is a kind of sweetmeat, the sense still heard in sohan halwa. Name lists give Sohan as "handsome" or "charming", matching the dictionary. The name has long been used in both Hindu and Sikh families of north India.
