Ajmal (اجمل) is the Arabic ajmal, "more" or "most beautiful", the comparative of jamīl. Lane's lexicon defines jamīl as beautiful, handsome or pleasing, whether in appearance, in conduct or in character, and quotes a hadith that calls God jamīl, "beautiful", one who loves beauty. Name lists give Ajmal as "most beautiful" or "handsome". In India the name is closely linked with Hakim Ajmal Khan, the Delhi physician and nationalist who helped found Jamia Millia Islamia.
