Afroz (افروز) is a Persian word from afrozīdan, "to kindle, to make bright". Steingass's Persian dictionary gives afroz as burning, illuminating or dazzling, and notes that it usually closes a compound, as in bostān-afroz, "that which lights up a garden". On its own it has become a given name in India and Pakistan, read as "illuminating" or "radiant". Afroz is mostly given to boys, while the form Afroza is used for girls.
