Athar meaning
Athar (اطہر) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
Purer, purest; cleaner, more lawful
Also used to mean: pious
Athar (اطہر) is the Arabic aṭhar, the comparative and superlative of ṭāhir, "clean, pure". Lane's lexicon gives it as cleaner or purer, cleanest or purest, and figuratively as "more lawful". The Quran uses it in 33:53, "that is purer for your hearts". Name lists give Athar as "pure" or "pious". A different word, athar (اثر), "trace, mark, tradition", is spelt the same way in English, so it is worth checking which one a family intends. Athar is also easily confused with Azhar, "most radiant".
