Muqaddas meaning

Muqaddas (مقدس) is a Muslim unisex name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage), used for both girls and boys.

Hallowed, sanctified, holy; purified, blessed

Muqaddas (مقدس) is the Arabic muqaddas, "made holy", from the root q-d-s, "to be pure or holy". Lane's lexicon defines it as hallowed, sanctified, consecrated, purified and blessed, and explains that Bayt al-Maqdis, Jerusalem, takes its name from the same root. The Quran speaks of "the holy land" (5:21) and of Moses at "the sacred valley of Tuwa" (20:12). In Urdu muqaddas is the everyday word for holy, as in muqaddas maqāmāt, "holy places". Name lists give the meaning as "sacred" or "holy". Some scholars advise against it as a personal name.
