Ghaus meaning
Ghaus (غوث) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin (Urdu and Persian usage).
A cry for help; aid, succour; in Persian, a helper
Also used to mean: defender
Ghaus (غوث) is the Arabic word ghawth, pronounced with an s in Urdu. Lane's lexicon records it as a cry for help, as in the call wā ghawthāh, "help!", and as the aid that answers that cry. Steingass's Persian dictionary adds the senses of a helper or defender, and notes that it became a title of Muslim saints. Sufis in India call Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani Ghaus-e-Azam, "the greatest helper", and some families give Ghaus, or compounds like Ghausuddin, in his memory. Name lists usually give "helper".
