Ghani meaning
Ghani (غنی) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
Free from want, self-sufficient; rich; as al-Ghani, God who needs no one
Ghani (غنی) is the Arabic adjective ghanī, from the root gh-n-y. Lane's lexicon defines it as someone free from need or want, content and sufficed, and also as rich, having much property. As al-Ghanī it is one of the names of God, explained as the One who needs no one in anything, and the Quran describes God as ghaniyyun ḥalīm, "self-sufficient, forbearing" (2:263). Indian Muslim families often use Ghani as a short form of Abdul Ghani, "servant of the Self-Sufficient", and it is also given on its own.
