Bilal meaning
Bilal (بلال) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
Moisture; also water
Bilal (بلال) is the Arabic bilāl, from the root b-l-l, "to moisten, to wet". Lane gives it as a synonym of balal, "moisture", and also as "water". Name lists today give the same sense, often as "water" or "refreshment". The name is cherished above all because of Bilāl ibn Rabāḥ, the Abyssinian companion whom the Prophet Muhammad chose to chant the adhān, the call to prayer, when it was instituted in 622 or 623. Bilāl became the patron of muezzins and their guilds throughout the Islamic world, and families still give the name in his memory. In Urdu and Arabic it is said with a long second vowel.
