Shaan meaning
Shaan (शान) is a Hindu and Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin (via Persian and Hindi-Urdu).
Rank, dignity, pomp, grandeur, glory; importance
Also used to mean: pride
Shaan (शान) is the Hindi and Urdu word shān, which came from Arabic shaʾn through Persian. In Arabic, Lane's lexicon gives shaʾn as a thing, an affair or business, a great affair, and a state or condition. In Hindustani the word grew grander: Platts lists rank, dignity, state, pomp, grandeur and glory, as in shān-o-shaukat, "pomp and splendour", and shāndār, "splendid". Name lists give Shaan as "pride" or "dignity", which follows this Hindustani sense. The name is short and used by both Hindu and Muslim families. The playback singer Shantanu Mukherjee performs simply as Shaan.
