Swaminathan meaning
Swaminathan (சுவாமிநாதன்) is a Tamil and Hindu boy's name.
Skanda (Murugan) as preceptor to Lord Shiva
Also used to mean: teacher of shiva
Swaminathan (சுவாமிநாதன்) is a name of Murugan at Swamimalai, near Kumbakonam, one of his six sacred abodes. The Tamil Lexicon gives cuvāminātaṉ as Skanda 'as Preceptor to Lord Śiva', from Sanskrit svāmin, lord or master (Monier-Williams also lists 'spiritual preceptor' and Skanda among its senses), and nātha, lord. Temple tradition says the boy Murugan explained the meaning of the sacred syllable Om to his own father, so he became the teacher of the Lord. The best-known bearer is M. S. Swaminathan, the agricultural scientist linked with India's Green Revolution.
