Sudar meaning
Sudar (சுடர்) is a Tamil unisex name, used for both girls and boys.
Light, radiance; also flame, lamp, the sun
Sudar (சுடர்) is the Tamil word cuṭar, from the verb cuṭu-, "to burn". The Tamil Lexicon's first sense is light, brilliance and lustre, cited from the Puṟanāṉūṟu, and it goes on to the sun, sunshine, the moon, a planet, fire, a burning lamp and a flame, each backed by a line of classical Tamil poetry such as the Paripāṭal or the Tirumurukāṟṟuppaṭai. Related words exist in Kannada and Malayalam. As a name, Sudar is a native Tamil word that carries the picture of a lamp's flame or a source of light. It is a different word from Sundar, "beautiful", which comes from Sanskrit. Sudar is given to both boys and girls, and also appears in longer names such as Sudarkodi.
