Kathir meaning
Kathir (கதிர்) is a Tamil boy's name.
Ray of light; also sunlight, and an ear of grain
Kathir (கதிர்) is the Tamil word katir, a ray or beam of light. The Tamil Lexicon gives light, sunlight, and the sun or moon among its senses, quoting the Puṟanāṉūṟu for the cool-rayed moon, and adds a homely second meaning: an ear of grain or a spear of grass, as in a line of the Kamba Rāmāyaṇam about green ears among the paddy. Kannada kadir and Malayalam katir are the same word. So the name joins the image of sunlight with that of a ripening crop. Kathir is used mostly for boys, and Kadhir is an alternative spelling. Some lists treat Kathir as an Arabic name; that is a separate word from a different language.
