Thirumalai meaning
Thirumalai (திருமலை) is a Tamil and Hindu boy's name.
The sacred hill, especially the hill of Tirupati
Thirumalai (திருமலை) means 'the sacred hill'. It joins tiru, the Tamil honorific that matches Sanskrit śrī and carries senses of holiness, beauty and prosperity, with malai, hill or mountain. The Tamil Lexicon gives tirumalai as a sacred mountain, as Mount Kailāsa, and as the hill at Tirupati sacred to Vishnu, the shrine of Lord Venkateswara. Boys may be named after the hill in thanks for a pilgrimage. A famous bearer was Tirumala Nayaka, the seventeenth-century ruler of Madurai who built the Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal palace.
