Thirumurugan meaning
Thirumurugan (திருமுருகன்) is a Tamil and Hindu boy's name.
The holy Murugan
Thirumurugan (திருமுருகன்) is 'the holy Murugan'. The honorific tiru, the Tamil counterpart of Sanskrit śrī, is given in the Tamil Lexicon as holiness, beauty, prosperity and the goddess Lakshmi. The Lexicon gives murukaṉ as youth and as the god himself, from muruku, a word for tender youth, fragrance, beauty and divinity. The phrase goes back to Tirumurukāṟṟuppaṭai, the Sangam poem by Nakkīrar that guides pilgrims to Murugan's shrines. The name is used by Tamil families devoted to Murugan.
