Kandan meaning
Kandan (கந்தன்) is a Tamil and Hindu boy's name.
Skanda, the youngest son of Shiva (Murugan)
Kandan (கந்தன்) is the Tamil form of Skanda, the war god and son of Shiva whom Tamils call Murugan. The Tamil Lexicon derives kantaṉ through Prakrit Kanda from Sanskrit Skanda and defines it as Skanda, the youngest son of Shiva; Monier-Williams glosses Skanda as "attacker", the god of war. The Tamil retelling of the Skanda Purana is the Kanda Purāṇam, and the hymn Kanda Sashti Kavasam is recited in Tamil homes. Longer names built on it include Kandasamy, "Lord Kanda", and Kandappan. Some name sites gloss Kandan as "strong", which the dictionaries do not support.
