Sukhdev meaning
Sukhdev (सुखदेव) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
A man's name (sukha 'happiness' + deva 'god')
Also used to mean: god of happiness, one who brings joy
Sukhdev (सुखदेव) joins Sanskrit sukha, "ease, comfort, happiness", with deva, "god". Monier-Williams records Sukhadeva as an old personal name, of a man in Buddhist texts and of an author, without defining it; read from its parts it means "god of happiness" or "joy-giving god". Name lists give "god of happiness" or "one who brings joy", which fit the parts. Some lists also link it with the sage Śukadeva, son of Vyāsa, but his name comes from śuka, "parrot", and is a different word. The name is shared by Hindu and Sikh families of north India; the revolutionary Sukhdev Thapar is its most famous bearer.
