Kedar meaning
Kedar (केदार) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, के, it is a Mithun rashi name (Punarvasu nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A field or meadow; a Himalayan region; a form of Śiva worshipped there
Also used to mean: Shiva
Kedar (केदार) is Sanskrit kedāra. Monier-Williams gives it first as a field or meadow, especially a flooded one, then as the mountain country of Kedār in the Himalayas and the form of Śiva worshipped there. That shrine is Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and a stop on the Char Dham pilgrimage. Kedar is also the name of a classical rāga. Name lists give "field" and link the name with Shiva, which matches. The Hebrew name Kedar, borne by a son of Ishmael, is unrelated.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Shiva.
