Vayu meaning
Vayu (वायु) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, वा, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Rohini nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Wind, air, one of the five elements; the wind god; breath
Also used to mean: god of wind
Vayu (वायु) is the Sanskrit vāyu, from vā, "to blow". Monier-Williams gives it as wind or air, one of the five elements, and as the god of the wind, who in the Ṛg-veda is often paired with Indra and later rules the north-west quarter. It also means breath and the vital airs of the body. In the epics Vayu is the father of Hanuman in the Rāmāyaṇa and of Bhīma in the Mahābhārata, which is why Hanuman is called Pavanaputra, "son of the wind". Name lists give the name as "wind" or "god of wind", matching the dictionary. Vaayu is an alternative spelling.
