Vadivel meaning
Vadivel (வடிவேல்) is a Tamil and Hindu boy's name.
A sharp lance; Murugan, who wields it
Vadivel (வடிவேல்) is a Tamil name of Murugan through his weapon. The Tamil Lexicon of the University of Madras gives vaṭivēl as a sharp lance and, in local use, as Skanda 'wielding the lance', quoting the hymns of Arunagirinathar. The first part, vaṭi, carries the sense of sharpness, so the name praises the keen-edged vel that Murugan carries. It is a Tamil boys' name, also lengthened to Vadivelu, the screen name of the much-loved comic actor, or to Vadivelan.
