Palani meaning
Palani (பழனி) is a Tamil and Hindu boy's name.
Palani, the hill shrine of Murugan
Palani (பழனி) is named after Palani, the hill town in Dindigul district crowned by one of Murugan's most famous temples. The Tamil Lexicon records paḻaṉi as the shrine of Skanda, also called Tiruvāviṉaṉkuṭi. Temple legend explains the name with Shiva's words to his son, "paḻam nī", "you are the fruit", after Murugan left home over a contest for a sacred fruit, but this is a story rather than an etymology. Parents give the name in thanks to the Palani deity, and it forms longer names such as Palanisamy, Palaniappan and Palanivel.
