Velmurugan meaning
Velmurugan (வேல்முருகன்) is a Tamil and Hindu boy's name.
Murugan who bears the vel, the spear
Also used to mean: spear-wielding murugan
Velmurugan (வேல்முருகன்) names Murugan by his weapon. Vēl is the Tamil word for a spear or lance, which the Tamil Lexicon defines as a dart, spear or javelin, and murukaṉ is the god himself, a name the Lexicon also gives as 'youth'. The vel is Murugan's emblem: devotees carry it in procession, set it up in shrines and chant 'vetrivel, veeravel' in his praise. Velmurugan is a boys' name used in Tamil Nadu, borne among others by the film playback singer Velmurugan.
