Pandian meaning
Pandian (பாண்டியன்) is a Tamil boy's name.
A king of the ancient Pandya country
Also used to mean: Pandya king
Pandian (பாண்டியன்) means a king of the Pandyas, the ancient Tamil dynasty that ruled from Madurai. The Tamil Lexicon defines pāṇṭiyaṉ as the king or ruler of the Pandya country, citing the Cilappatikāram, and Monier-Williams records Sanskrit pāṇḍya as the name of the southern people and country and of a Pandya prince. Tamil tradition links the Pandya kings with the literary academies of the Sangam age. The name is used on its own and in compounds such as Soundarapandian and Rajapandian.
