Pankaj meaning
Pankaj (पंकज) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Lotus, literally 'mud-born'
Pankaj (पंकज) is the Sanskrit paṅkaja, "mud-born", from paṅka, "mud", and -ja, "born". Monier-Williams gives it as the lotus, Nelumbium speciosum, whose flower closes in the evening, and cites it from the Mahabharata and classical poetry. The name pictures a flower of great beauty rising out of mud. As a masculine noun paṅkaja is also a short name of Brahmā, the creator, who is said to be born from a lotus. Indian name lists give Pankaj as "lotus", which matches the dictionary, and it sits with Kamal and Rajiv among the lotus names.
