Magizh meaning
Magizh (மகிழ்) is a Tamil unisex name, used for both girls and boys.
Joy, gladness
Magizh (மகிழ்) is the Tamil noun makiḻ, joy or gladness, formed from the verb makiḻ-, to rejoice. The Tamil Lexicon of the University of Madras also lists intoxication and toddy as secondary senses in the same entry. A separate word with the same sound, borrowed from Sanskrit makula, names the magizham tree (Mimusops elengi), whose fragrant flowers appear in Tamil devotional poetry. The root is familiar from makiḻcci, the everyday Tamil word for happiness, and name lists give Magizh simply as "joy" or "happiness". It is used for both boys and girls. The film director Magizh Thirumeni, born Morgan Antony, works under the name.
