Anwar meaning
Anwar (انور) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
Brighter, more splendid, more radiant
Also used to mean: luminous
Anwar (انور) is the Arabic anwar, the comparative and superlative form from n-w-r, the root of nūr, "light". Steingass's dictionary gives it as brighter, more splendid, radiant or luminous. Name lists give Anwar as "luminous" or "bright". It is easily confused with anwār, "lights", the plural of nūr, which differs only in its long second vowel and is used in names such as Anwarul Haq. Well-known bearers include Anwar Sadat, President of Egypt from 1970 to 1981.
