Hilal meaning
Hilal (ہلال) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
The new moon, the crescent seen as a month begins
Also used to mean: crescent moon
Hilal (ہلال) is the Arabic word hilāl, the new crescent moon. Lane's lexicon defines it as the new moon, the thin moon seen close to the sun just before or after it is renewed each month. The sighting of the hilāl marks the start of every Islamic month, including Ramadan and the two Eids, and the Quran calls the new moons "signs of time for people and for the pilgrimage" (2:189). The crescent is also a familiar Muslim emblem. Name lists give "crescent moon", which is exactly the dictionary sense.
