Azhar meaning
Azhar (ازہر) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
Shining, giving light, bright; also the moon
Azhar (ازہر) is the Arabic azhar, from the root z-h-r, "to shine". Lane gives it as shining, giving light and bright, and as a name for the moon; used of a person, it describes a fair, bright face. The same root gives zahr, "flowers, blossoms", and the names Zahra and Zuhair. Lane also mentions El-Azhar, the great collegiate mosque of Cairo. Name lists give Azhar as "luminous", "shining" or "bright", which matches the dictionary. In South Asia, however, the name is also spelt اظہر; written that way it is aẓhar, "most evident" or "most manifest", from a different root, ẓ-h-r, "to become apparent". The spelling a family chooses decides which meaning the name carries.
