Qamar meaning
Qamar (قمر) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
The moon
Qamar (قمر) is the Arabic word for the moon. Lane's lexicon explains that qamar strictly means the moon from its third night until the end of the month, and that it is so called from its whiteness. The Quran's 54th surah is named al-Qamar, after its opening words: "The Hour has drawn near and the moon has split" (54:1). Name lists give Qamar simply as "moon". In India it is mainly a boys' name, though it is sometimes given to girls, and poets have used it as a pen name, as Ustad Qamar Jalalvi did.
