Imran meaning
Imran (عمران) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
A Quranic name: ʿImrān, the father of Maryam (Mary)
Also used to mean: prosperity
Imran (عمران) is ʿImrān, the name the Quran gives to the father of Maryam (Mary). She is called "the daughter of ʿImrān" in 66:12, and Surah 3, Āl ʿImrān, "the Family of ʿImrān", is named after his household, which 3:33 counts among those God chose above all people. On name lists today Imran is usually given as "prosperity". That is the meaning families use today; the classical dictionaries we checked give no meaning for the name itself. Lane does record a different word written with the same letters, ʿumrān, a land or house that is inhabited and cultivated. Among well-known bearers is Imran Khan, who captained Pakistan to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup and was prime minister from 2018 to 2022.
