Zulfiqar meaning
Zulfiqar (ذوالفقار) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
'possessor of vertebrae': the famous sword of the Prophet and Ali
Also used to mean: Ali's sword, possessor of the sword
Zulfiqar (ذوالفقار) is the Arabic dhū l-faqār, literally "the one with vertebrae", from dhū, "possessor of", and faqār, the bones of the spine. Lane's lexicon records it as the name of a celebrated sword of the Prophet that afterwards passed to Ali; it had belonged to al-ʿAs ibn Munabbih, who was killed at Badr. Lane reports the explanation that it was so named for small, beautiful hollows along its blade. The sword became a symbol of Ali's courage, above all for Shia Muslims, and the name is given in his honour.
