Ilyas meaning

Ilyas (الیاس) is a Muslim and international boy's name of Arabic origin (from Hebrew).

The prophet Elijah; Hebrew Eliyyah, 'Yah is God'

Ilyas (الیاس) is the Quranic form of the name of the prophet Elijah. The Quran counts him among the messengers (37:123) and lists him with Zechariah, John and Jesus among the righteous (6:85). The name goes back to Hebrew Eliyyah, which Strong's Concordance explains as a compound of El, "God", and Yah, the divine name: the Lord is God. In the Bible, Elijah is the prophet who challenges the worship of Baal and is taken up to heaven in a whirlwind. Name lists give Ilyas as the prophet's name or as "the Lord is my God", in line with the Hebrew. In India the name is also spelled Ilyaas, and Christian families use the related form Elias.
