Angel meaning
Angel is an international and Christian unisex name of Greek origin (via Latin and Spanish), used for both girls and boys.
Messenger; especially a messenger of God, an angel
Angel comes from the Greek angelos, "messenger". Strong's Concordance (G32) explains it as a messenger, especially a messenger sent by God, from the verb angellō, "to bring news". Greek translators of the Bible used angelos for the Hebrew malʾakh, "messenger", and the word reached English through Latin angelus. In Spain and Latin America Ángel is a boy's name, honouring the angels as God's messengers, and that is the use behind its place on American lists. In India the name is given to both girls and boys, mainly in Christian families, so parents may want to note both uses.
