Angela meaning
Angela is a Christian girl's name of Greek origin (via Latin).
Angel, messenger; from Greek angelos
Angela is the feminine form of the Latin name Angelus, which comes from the Greek angelos. Strong's Concordance traces angelos to a verb meaning to bring tidings and gives it as a messenger, above all a messenger from God, an angel. The word is common in the New Testament, from the angel Gabriel who brings news to Mary to the angels of the Book of Revelation. Name lists give "angel" or "messenger of God", in line with the Greek. A well-known saint of the name is Angela Merici, who in 1535 founded the Ursulines at Brescia in Italy, the first institute of women devoted to educating girls.
