Joel meaning
Joel is a Christian and international boy's name of Hebrew origin.
Jehovah is his God; the LORD is God
Joel comes from the Hebrew Yoʾel (יוֹאֵל), which joins a short form of the divine name with El, 'God'. Strong's concordance renders it 'Jehovah is his God', the NAS concordance more cautiously as 'probably the LORD is God', and Brown-Driver-Briggs says it is usually interpreted that way. Name lists give 'the Lord is God' or 'Yahweh is God', which agree. The name belongs to about a dozen people in the Hebrew Bible, the best known being the prophet Joel, whose short book describes a plague of locusts and calls the people to fasting and repentance. In the New Testament, Peter quotes his prophecy of the outpouring of God's spirit at Pentecost.
