Pius meaning
Pius is a Christian boy's name of Latin origin.
Dutiful, devout; faithful to God, parents and country
Also used to mean: pious
Pius is the Latin word pius, which Lewis & Short define as 'dutiful, pious': doing what one owes to God, to parents, to family and to country. Virgil called his hero 'pius Aeneas' because he carried his old father out of burning Troy, and the Roman emperor Antoninus took Pius as a title. Christians adopted it as a name of devotion, and twelve popes have reigned as Pius, from Pius I in the second century to Pius XII in the twentieth. In India it is used by Catholic families, and the Italian form Pio recalls St Padre Pio.
