Vincent meaning
Vincent is an international and Christian boy's name of Latin origin.
From Latin Vincentius, from vincere, "to conquer, overcome, prevail"
Also used to mean: conquering, prevailing
Vincent comes from the Latin name Vincentius, built on vincens, 'conquering', from the verb vincere. Lewis & Short give vinco as to conquer, overcome or defeat, whether in battle, in a lawsuit, in a game or in an argument, and also to prevail. The name spread through early martyrs such as St Vincent of Saragossa, and later through St Vincent de Paul, the French priest who founded works for the poor. Its most famous modern bearer is the painter Vincent van Gogh. Baby-name lists give 'conquering' or 'prevailing', which matches. It is said VIN-sunt.
