Blaise meaning
Blaise is a Christian boy's name of Latin origin (via French).
Lisping, stammering (Latin blaesus)
Blaise is the French form of Latin Blasius, usually explained from blaesus, which Lewis & Short define as 'lisping, stammering, speaking indistinctly'; Blaesus was also a Roman family name. The name honours St Blaise, a fourth-century bishop of Sebaste in Armenia, who is remembered as a healer of throat ailments. On his feast, 3 February, many Catholic parishes bless throats with two crossed candles, a custom kept in Indian churches too. The name is used chiefly by Catholic families in Mangalore and Goa.
