Victor meaning
Victor is a Christian and international boy's name of Latin origin.
Conqueror, victor; from Latin vincō, to conquer
Victor is the Latin word victor, "conqueror". Lewis and Short's Latin dictionary derives it from vincō, "to conquer", and gives it as a victor or vanquisher, adding a rarer figurative sense for someone who has mastered a desire or succeeded in a plan; as an epithet it was applied to the gods Jupiter and Hercules. Used as an adjective it means victorious. It is not a biblical name, so it has no Strong's number, but it has long been used by Christians across Europe and appears in many languages, as Viktor in German and Russian. Name lists give "conqueror" or "winner", as in the Latin. A famous bearer is the French writer Victor Hugo, author of Les Misérables.
