Savio meaning
Savio is a Christian boy's name of Italian origin (from Latin).
Wise; from Latin sapere, 'to be wise'
Savio is an Italian surname meaning 'wise', from Latin sapere, which Lewis & Short define as 'to taste' and, in its main sense, 'to be wise, sensible, discreet'; the same verb gives sapiens and sage. It became a first name through St Dominic Savio (1842–1857), a boy from Piedmont who studied under St John Bosco, died at fourteen and was canonised in 1954 as a model for young people. Don Bosco's Salesians run many schools in India, and Savio is used as a Catholic name here, including in Goa; the Goan footballer and coach Savio Medeira is one bearer.
