Gregory meaning
Gregory is a Christian boy's name of Greek origin.
Watchful, vigilant; from gregoreo, 'to keep awake'
Gregory comes from Greek Gregorios, built on gregoreo, 'to keep awake, to watch', which Strong's Concordance lists among the New Testament's words for spiritual vigilance, as in 'watch and pray'. The name was carried by great early church leaders, including Gregory the Great and Gregory of Nazianzus. In Kerala the Syriac form Gregorios is borne by bishops, above all St Gregorios of Parumala (1848–1902), the beloved Parumala Thirumeni, and Gregory is used by the Orthodox and Catholic families who honour him.
