Isidore meaning
Isidore is a Christian boy's name of Greek origin (via Latin and French).
Gift of Isis: Greek Isidōros, from Isis + dōron 'gift'
Isidore comes through French and Latin Isidorus from the Greek Isidōros. The Online Etymology Dictionary explains it as "gift of Isis", joining the name of the Egyptian goddess to dōron, "gift", the same word found in Theodore and Dorothy. Despite its pagan origin it became a Christian name through early saints, above all Isidore of Seville, the seventh-century bishop and scholar named a doctor of the Church, and Isidore the Farmer, the humble labourer of Madrid honoured as the patron of farmers. In India it is found mainly in Goan and Mangalorean Catholic families.
