Valentine meaning
Valentine is a Christian boy's name of Latin origin.
Strong, vigorous; well, healthy (Latin valens, root of Valentinus)
Also used to mean: brave
Valentine is the English form of the Latin name Valentinus, built on valens, 'strong', from the verb valeo, 'to be strong, to be well'. Lewis & Short define valens as strong, stout and vigorous, and also as well and healthy. Several early saints bore the name, above all St Valentine, a Roman priest martyred in the third century, whose feast on 14 February later became the lovers' day of cards and flowers. In India Valentine is used as a boy's name in Christian families, while Valentina is the feminine form.
