Valavan meaning
Valavan (வளவன்) is a Tamil boy's name.
The Chola king; also a cultivator
Valavan (வளவன்) is an old title of the Chola kings, whose land along the Kaveri was the richest rice country of the Tamils. The Tamil Lexicon derives it from vaḷam, fertility or abundance, and gives it as the Chola king, quoting the Puṟanāṉūṟu, and also as a cultivator of the land. So the name links royal rule with the plenty of the fields. With Sembiyan and Killi, it is one of several Chola titles that Tamil parents now choose for boys who carry a name from Tamil history.
