Ebenezer meaning
Ebenezer is a Christian boy's name of Hebrew origin.
Stone of the help
Also used to mean: stone of help
Ebenezer comes from Hebrew Eben-ha-Ezer, 'the stone of help'. After a victory over the Philistines, the prophet Samuel set up a stone and named it, saying 'Thus far the Lord has helped us' (1 Samuel 7:12). The phrase entered hymns and became a first name among Protestants, though Dickens's miser Ebenezer Scrooge gave it a different flavour in English. In India it is a Christian name used in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and the Northeast, and many churches and schools are called Ebenezer.
