Elias meaning
Elias is an international, Christian and Muslim boy's name of Greek origin (from Hebrew).
Greek form of Elijah, "Yah is God"
Also used to mean: the Lord is my God, Yahweh is God
Elias is the Greek and Latin form of Elijah. Strong's Concordance (G2243) lists Ēlias as the New Testament spelling of the prophet's name, which appears about thirty times, and traces it to the Hebrew ʾĒlîyyāhû, explained in Brown-Driver-Briggs as "Yah is God". The same prophet appears in the Quran as Ilyās; Surah 37:123 calls him one of the messengers, and English translations give his name as Elias. So the name is shared by Christian and Muslim families, and in South Asia Elias is also used as a spelling of Ilyas. It sits easily with Indian surnames.
