Daniel meaning
Daniel is a Christian and international boy's name of Hebrew origin.
Judge of God; from Dan, judge, and El, God
Daniel is the Hebrew Daniyyel (דָּנִיֵּאל). Strong's Concordance forms it from dan, "judge", from the verb diyn, "to judge", and El, "God", giving "judge of God"; name lists usually render it "God is my judge", which expresses the same idea. It is the name of the hero of the Book of Daniel, a young Jewish exile at the Babylonian court who interprets the king's dreams and, thrown into a lions' den for continuing to pray, is protected by God. The book's first six chapters tell these stories and the last six record his apocalyptic visions; many scholars date its writing to the second century BCE. Daniel is honoured as a prophet in Christian tradition, and in India the name is used mainly in Christian families.
