Danish meaning
Danish (دانش) is a Muslim boy's name of Persian origin.
Science, knowledge, learning; excellence
Danish (دانش) is the Persian dānish, which Steingass glosses as science, knowledge and learning, and also excellence. It belongs with the verb dānistan, "to know", on the same page of the dictionary. Steingass lists many words built on it, such as dānish-afzā, "knowledge-increasing", dānish-pizhūh, "seeking knowledge", and dānishmand, "learned, wise". Name lists today give Danish as "knowledge" or "wisdom", in line with the dictionary. It is a Persian rather than an Arabic name and does not occur in the Quran, but like many Persian words it is long established in Urdu. It has nothing to do with the English word Danish, "from Denmark"; the two simply sound alike.
