Baqir meaning
Baqir (باقر) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
One who searches deeply into knowledge; also the lion
Also used to mean: one who has great knowledge, scholar
Baqir (باقر) comes from the Arabic root b-q-r, "to split or rip open". Lane's lexicon gives bāqir as a man who searches into the sciences to the utmost, and bāqir al-ʿilm as one who ranges widely in knowledge; in a separate sense al-bāqir is the lion, which rips open its prey. Steingass's Persian dictionary likewise has "deeply versed in science or knowledge". The name honours Muhammad al-Baqir, the 8th-century scholar who is the fifth Imam of Shia Islam, and it is used by Shia families in India.
