Hisham meaning
Hisham (ہشام) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
Generosity, open-handedness
Also used to mean: generous, noble
Hisham (ہشام) is an old Arabic name. Steingass's Persian dictionary, which records Arabic words used in Persian, defines hishām as generosity or open-handedness. It shares the root h-sh-m with Hashim; Lane's lexicon explains the verb hashama as crushing or breaking something dry, and some writers connect the generous sense with breaking bread for guests. Lane himself does not list hishām. The name was carried by the Umayyad caliph Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik and by the historian Hisham ibn al-Kalbi. Name lists give "generous", which matches Steingass.
